Facilities:
Optimizing Facilities, Technology & Systems
2025-2030: Facilities
Often described as a “secret garden” in the heart of the West Village, St. Luke’s is set upon two acres of gardens with pathways that connect external doors to outdoor spaces. It is a peaceful island in the heart of the hustle and bustle of New York City. Over the last 80 years of history, St. Luke’s School has grown in size and complexity. The schoolhouse, built ten years after its founding, was expanded in 2012 to accommodate the need to double class sizes as a way to sustainably separate from the founding church, The Church of St. Luke in the Fields. Over the last decade, improvements have been made to the grounds, including a stunning rooftop play area and bright, newly expanded classrooms on the second-floor “loggia” space.
Over the next five years, the facilities at St. Luke’s School will benefit from program-driven improvements that meet the needs of students today and tomorrow, a focus on the beautification and safety of our stunning gem of a campus, and an investment in the technology, systems, and workflows that position us to make better, data-informed decisions and help our school community thrive into the future.
Strategic Priority 1
Develop a facilities master plan that optimizes the short- and long-term usage of current and prospective indoor and outdoor spaces.
Strategic Priority 2
Assess and ensure that the school uses information technology, administrative systems, and hardware to operate effectively, stay up to date with data management and security, and meet student, family, and professional staff needs.
Strategic Priority 3
Develop and communicate a comprehensive strategy and implement action steps to institutionalize anti-bias practices and belonging.
Facilities and Belonging
Belonging is an essential component of experiencing St. Luke’s School, whether you are a prospective family or a veteran member of the professional staff. Facilities, technology, and systems are essential structures that enable us to nurture belonging for our entire community. As we look to the future, we will ensure that our facilities master plan, procedures, policies, and systems prioritize inclusion, community-building, and anti-bias practices.
Our Goals:
Facilities 2025 - 2026
In our first year of the 5-year strategic plan, we will continue to improve our facilities, systems, and approaches, thereby strengthening the structures of belonging and anti-bias work at St. Luke’s School.
Beginning the proces of developing a Facilities Master Plan, with a study of our facilitties to be completed in the Fall of 2025, we will focus on creating an implementation plan that will span the next four years, prioritizing program innovation and expansion, community-building, and ADA compliance. As part of our ongoing work in response to the Church’s planned Mission Building, we will continue the process of reimagining all outdoor play and learning spaces to encompass a broad and expansive range of student interests, as well as partner with block constituents to meet the evolving security needs of our shared spaces.
Regarding technology and systems, we will develop a sustainable, comprehensive training plan for students, families, and professional staff on both existing and new technologies. This plan will also include a comprehensive review of cybersecurity and the implementation of recommendations.
In all areas necessary to support school operations, we will begin documenting existing anti-bias practices, policies, events, professional learning, and family education. We will also continue to communicate our commitment to belonging and nurture partnerships to enhance this work.

A Look Ahead:
Facilities 2026 - 2030
2026 - 2027
In our second year of the plan, we will begin implementing Phase One of the Facilities Master Plan and take the necessary steps toward constructing our reimagined outdoor play and learning spaces, prioritizing the security needs of our school community. As part of our future-oriented work, we will develop a deferred maintenance plan that includes existing and new elements of our expansive facility. We will implement a sustainable and comprehensive process for training all of our constituents on existing and new technologies, begin to evaluate our software and hardware needs, enhance our data sources, and implement the recommendations of our cybersecurity audit.
In all areas necessary to support the school operations, we will complete the documentation of our existing anti-bias practices, develop a plan for implementing new anti-bias frameworks, and enhance our structures and communication related to belonging and anti-bias work.
2027 - 2028
In our third year of the plan, we will continue implementing Phase One of the Facilities Master Plan. We will attend to the completed construction of our reimagined outdoor play and learning spaces, prioritizing the security needs of our school community. As part of our future-oriented work, we will implement a deferred maintenance plan. We will establish a sustainable and comprehensive training process for all constituents on existing and new technologies, complete our evaluation of software and hardware needs, and enhance our data sources to ensure data-informed decision-making processes are integrated throughout school operations. We will implement enhanced anti-bias frameworks and structures, and communicate openly about our deepening anti-bias work to ensure St. Luke’s remains a place where all community members feel they belong.
2028 - 2029
In our fourth year of the plan, we will continue the implementation of Phase One of the Facilities Master Plan, prioritizing the security needs of our school community. The School and the architects will determine which projects to implement in Phase Two of the Facilities Master Plan. We will continue to assess and refine our software and hardware needs and data sources to ensure that data-informed, anti-bias decision-making processes are integrated throughout school operations and shared with our school community.
2029 - 2030
In our final year of the plan, we will complete the implementation of Phase One of the Facilities Master Plan, ensuring that our campus supports innovative programs, belonging, community-building, and inclusion through ADA compliance, as well as remains a safe, secure haven in the middle of a bustling city.
