Belonging:
Prioritizing Anti-Bias Practices, Community, and Belonging Throughout All Strategic Pillars
2025-2030: Belonging
At St. Luke’s School, we believe belonging is the foundational cornerstone that unites knowledge with goodness, enabling every member of our community to thrive. Our strategic focus for 2025-2030 intentionally embeds anti-bias practices and community-building throughout all major pillars – Students, Professional Staff, Facilities, and Finance – to ensure authentic inclusivity guides every decision we make. This holistic approach ensures that the culture of safety, openness, and warmth we treasure is preserved, strengthened, and secured for the next generation.
THE STRATEGIC PILLAR OF BELONGING ENSURES THAT:
Community, our greatest strength, is always prioritized.
Anti-bias approaches and frameworks are used so that all members of our community—families, students, and professional staff—feel that they belong.
Our ongoing work fosters authentic inclusivity, a cornerstone of St. Luke’s School.

Belonging 2026 - 2030
STUDENTS
At St. Luke’s, we understand that in order for students to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically, they need to feel that they belong. As we chart our work over the next five years, we will prioritize anti-bias practices throughout our curriculum, co-curricular activities, afterschool programming, student support structures, and partnership with families to nurture a sense of belonging and provide equitable access to what our students need to grow and reach their personal definition of success. By ensuring that our student-centric pedagogy is supported by inclusive and holistic curricula, evaluating and supporting affirming spaces, expanding afterschool opportunities, and increasing civic engagement and service learning programming, we are supporting our children to develop critical thinking skills that will give them agency and autonomy in school decisions that impact them and make the world beyond St. Luke’s a better place for themselves and others.
PROFESSIONAL STAFF
Belonging is an essential component of the professional staff experience at St. Luke’s. In order for professional staff to continue bringing their best selves to our students, families, and curricular development, they need a workplace where they are valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. As we look to the future, we will ensure that our recruitment, retention, and professional growth structures prioritize anti-bias practices. Over the next five years, we will invest in meaningful professional development, leadership pathways, and wellness initiatives that recognize the vital contributions of our staff to our community. We will also continue to cultivate a culture of belonging where diverse identities, voices, and experiences are not only welcomed but actively included in the decision-making process. By prioritizing trust, respect, and equity, we aim to deepen connectivity, collaboration, engagement, and belonging for our professional staff in alignment with our mission and values.
FACILITIES
Whether you are a prospective family or a veteran member of the professional staff, belonging is shaped not only by our physical spaces, but also by the systems and technologies that support how people navigate, access, and experience St. Luke’s School. As we look to the future, we will prioritize inclusion, community-building, and anti-bias practices across our facilities master plan, procedures, policies, and systems. This includes investing in accessible and sustainable infrastructure, ensuring inclusive and easily navigable technology, and designing welcoming, adaptable, and affirming spaces for all identities. By centering dignity, care, and connection as we align our physical environment, digital systems, and operational practices, we will continue fostering a community of respect and support.
FINANCE
Viewing our budget as a moral document, we hold an unwavering commitment to the dignity of all human beings at the core of our value proposition. St. Luke’s School is unique, not just because of its oasis-like campus in the middle of a bustling city, but because of its deep dedication to celebrating the joys of learning, holding high expectations for academic performance, and believing in leadership as service. As we look to the future, we will ensure that St. Luke’s School continues to flourish financially and remain a vital presence within the NYC Independent School landscape. We will strengthen our financial practices by ensuring budgeting, planning, and decision-making processes are inclusive, participatory, and responsive to the needs of every community member. This includes fortifying tuition assistance, supporting equitable access to all aspects of school life, and investing in our professional staff through continual assessment of fair compensation and professional development. By approaching finance as a tool for fostering trust and enabling belonging, we build a more resilient, just, and value-driven school; in turn, this assures that generations of children at St. Luke’s School will continue to access exceptional education and thrive as community members.
